Children grow and learn important skills during
their first three years. All families want their children to
grow and reach their potential, but families of children with
disabilities, or delays in development, face unique challenges
and need extra help. This extra help is available through the
Early Childhood Intervention (ECI)
Program. |
Who is eligible for
services? Children, 0-3 years of age, are eligible if they
have a significant developmental delay in one of the following
areas: Learning, movement, ability to talk, ability to understand
and get along with others. Children are also eligible if they are
determined by professionals to have atypical development or medical
conditions that are known to lead to developmental delay, such as
Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, etc.
How much do
services cost? Services are provided at no cost to the
family. There is no income eligibility requirement.
Where
are services provided? Services are provided in the child's
home, day care, or other natural environment in the
community.
What Services are provided? Services for
children could include:

- physical, occupational, speech and language therapy
- special instruction
- activities to develop learning and eating skills
- activities to help social and emotional development
- assistive technology, or services and equipment designed
or changed for special use by children with developmental
delays
- nutritional
services

families could include:

- education and help with questions about your child's
development
- help finding needed social and health services
- support groups
- counseling as needed
